Location: Broadway | Downtown
Virtual Parklet

For this year's PARK(ing) Day, here at HPI we wanted to explore not just giving back a parking spot to pedestrians, but the whole street block. With recent conversations within the city about closing portions of Broadway, our team started to envision what Broadway could become if space was entirely dedicated to the pedestrian. This new urban street design proposes a stormwater system, mass transit system overhead, outdoor play, flex lawn, and a central stage.

Most of this space is design with flexibility in mind. The open lawns can be placed to play bags with your friends, have a picnic, or for a larger group, listen to their favorite bands. The local bars and shops can spread out beyond the sidewalk and utilize portions of this new urban street for additional seating. the overhead boardwalk searces as both additional seating areas during large events and a trolley station for loading and unloading of passengers.
