FROM HEREFORD DOOLEY ARCHITECTS: In order to heal, one must learn to heel. In the current circumstances of covid-19 and social distancing, it is still important to maintain relationships with others. Dogs are designed to interact and learn from their surroundings. Interactions with other dogs and their environments can help heal them both mentally and physically. This fluid movement of the “heeling barket” is designed to train our dogs to heel and interact with their surroundings while maintaining social distancing. Before you walk in, feel free to tie your unwanted shopping or take out bags to the re-used pallet wall. These bags will be donated to one of our favorite local dog shelters for them to use a poop bags. Walk your dog into the colorful waterproof padded flooring space where they can heel next to the water wall while having a refreshing drink. Continue walking along the greenery wall making you and your furry friend feel as if you are one with nature allowing you to feel the healing of the outdoors. The chicken wire structure with greenery provides shade behind and overhead while providing disconnection between you and the world outside of the barklet. This allows you to have a piece of mind about taking a break and sitting with your dog on the provided scratch boxes and padded tile flooring along the greenery wall. You may also decide to proceed to the end of the barket and teach your dog to heel before interacting with the toys and treats attached to the reused pallet wall. If your dog needs to relieve themselves during your time at the barklet, there is a convenient relief spot with donated doggy bags and a waste bin towards the front of the space. Convenient information is located on the pallet sign next to the relief spot allowing you to take a moment to yourself a read on how to care for your dog while they do their business. Do not forget to stop by the stick library on your way out to give your relaxed and well-behaved pup a stick as another reward. When dogs do not understand how to heel, they become stressed. When dogs learn to heel, their minds heal.
We believe the “Heeling Barklet” is the perfect space to heal with your favorite furry friend. Our design uses sustainable materials/reusable items throughout. All toys will be donated from local stores around the area who are about to trash their unbought dog toys. If they are not used in the design, they will be donated to a local shelter. Bags can be used as poop bags at the local shelter. Chicken wire can be donated to a shelter to build under fenced-in areas so the dogs do not dig their way out. The waterproof tiles and turf can be donated to a shelter for them to use as an indoor floor base in play areas. The dog relief and planters will be donated to a local park for their use. All wood will be donated from local businesses who typically throw pallets away and the wood will be recycled after parking day. The water wall will be constructed using unused piping from local job sites and recycled after PARK(ing) Day.
