MDHA

Established in 1938, MDHA provides affordable housing opportunities to more than 13,500 families primarily through public housing and Section 8. It also manages federally-funded community development and homeless assistance programs on behalf of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville. To foster urban growth, MDHA oversees 12 redevelopment districts that guide development through design and land-use zoning controls.

The Nashville Promise Zone Infrastructure Workgroup

The Civic Design Center participates in the Nashville Promise Zone (NPZ) Infrastructure Workgroup. In 2016, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded Nashville with a Promise Zone designation. This designation provides 10 years of support including priority access to federal investments in six subzones that further communities’ strategic plans, a federal liaison to help local leaders navigate federal resources, and several full-time AmeriCorps VISTA members to strengthen the capacity of the Promise Zone initiatives.

The NPZ is a federally designated area that comprises 46-square miles, including the neighborhoods just south, east, and north of Nashville’s central business district. The Goal of the Infrastructure Workgroup is to increase access and awareness of transportation and infrastructure-related inequities affecting residents within the NPZ.
