PARK(ing) Day is a global event that calls attention to the need for more urban open space, generating critical debate around how it is created and allocated. PARK(ing) Day Nashville 2022 (September 16th) is focusing on Housing as a Public Right. All pop-up parklet installations interpreted a prompt set by local housing and homelessness experts.
Nashville founded the Golden Cone Awards, which is an annual event recognizing PARK(ing) Day participants for exceptional design ideas and innovative educational displays! This year, we recruited anonymous experts to visit the parklet installations on PARK(ing) Day and judge them based on the Metro Nashville Affordable Housing Taskforce Guiding Principles: Racial Equity, Innovation, Connectivity + Accessibility, and Resilience.
There will be a winner in each principle category as well as a Best Overall and of course, the Ronald E. Yearwood Friend of Public Space Award.
