Creating Quality Public Spaces that Represent Community Identity

Reclaiming Public Space is a theme centered around creating more public spaces, raising the quality of public spaces and expanding upon the diversity of public space types. Global design consensus holds that the best public spaces foster connections, elevate quality of life, and connect us to our community. It is not enough to create more public space without utilizing placekeeping and placemaking strategies so that the spaces reflect the identity of the neighborhood.

Under this category, residents and local leaders have tools to inspire and guide them to shape spaces for all. Some of those tools for inspiration are publications, temporary tactical urbanism projects through TURBO, PARK(ing) Day, and more.
